Workshop Description: An intensive weekend of exciting Dr. Jimmy Slyde Tap Experience, Included: Special Tap Master Class: Essential Elements of Tap: With: Dr. Jimmy Slyde & Prof. Robert L. Reed Dr. Jimmy Slyde, assisted by Prof. Robert L. Reed, taught a class emphasizing basic elements of tap and rhythm. Honorary Tap Courses and Master Classes: With: Sarah Petronio, Van 'The Man' Porter, Prof. Robert L. Reed, & Dianne 'Lady Di' Walker Four leading tap artists taught reflections on Dr. Jimmy Slyde's legacy through their personal work. Each drew on Slyde's influence and contribution to his/her own career. Tradition In Tap - Award Presentation: With: Dianne 'Lady Di' Walker Dianne 'Lady Di' Walker, a member of the Tradition In Tap - Advisory Committee, presented Dr. Jimmy Slyde the Tradition In Tap - Award, for: "Outstanding Achievements & Significant Contribution To The Tradition And Art Of Tap Dance". Tap History Talks: With: Melba Huber Melba Huber is one of a few tap historians who write about the history of tap and the many artists who play / played important roles in it's development & growth. She led the emotional 'Tap History Talks' while interviewing Dr. Slyde, while adding her own personal input. Video Presentation: With: Prof. Hank Smith Hank Smith is a well known tap dancer, and collector of video & movie clips. He has an extensive library of material starting from the early days of tap dance. Hank presented some clips of Dr. Jimmy Slyde on film and video, including rare footage brought from France by Sarah Petronio.
